Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Unbinge is built with one principle: collect only what is needed to keep YouTube focused on approved educational channels. This policy explains, in plain language, what we store locally, what we send to servers, and what we do not collect.

1. What the extension stores

Most Unbinge settings, including your age profile, Education Mode toggle, distraction filters, locally approved channels, and theme, are saved in your browser's local storage. These settings are used only to apply your YouTube filtering choices in this browser.

2. What we do not collect

  • No names, emails, or account details. There is no sign-up.
  • No full browsing history or watch history.
  • No device identifiers or advertising IDs.
  • No third-party trackers or analytics in the extension.

3. Channel requests

When you submit or locally approve a channel for review, the extension may send the channel URL, channel ID, channel handle, and channel name to our server. This lets us review requested channels and improve the shared educational whitelist. We do not attach your name, email, account identifier, or Chrome profile information to the request.

4. Whitelist sync

When the extension syncs the approved channel list, your browser sends your selected age category to unbinge.watch so the server can return the appropriate channel list. The request includes an extension API key used to protect the endpoint from abuse. Your browser stores the returned whitelist locally.

5. YouTube and Google API lookups

To decide whether a YouTube video belongs to an approved channel, the extension may request public video or channel metadata from YouTube pages, YouTube oEmbed, or the YouTube Data API. These requests can include the YouTube video ID or channel handle from the page you are trying to open. The returned metadata is used only for whitelist enforcement and may be cached locally in your browser.

6. Limited Use

Unbinge uses extension permissions and any information received from Google APIs only to provide and improve its single purpose: creating a distraction-free, whitelist-based YouTube learning environment. We do not sell this information, use it for advertising, or transfer it except as needed to provide the extension's features, comply with law, or protect the service from abuse.

7. Uninstall feedback

If you choose to leave feedback when uninstalling, the reason and optional message you provide are stored on our server to help improve Unbinge. Submission is entirely optional and anonymous.

8. This website

The unbinge.watch website does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising trackers. Standard server logs, such as IP address, timestamp, and requested path, may be kept by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.

9. Children's privacy

Unbinge is designed for families and children. We do not knowingly collect names, emails, account details, or other direct personal identifiers from children. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Data retention

Channel requests and uninstall feedback are retained for as long as useful for improving the service. You may request deletion of any feedback you submitted by emailing us.
